Year of Firsts: Running out of ideas

This global heatwave has been limiting my desire to leave the house and hence narrowing my Year of Firsts options. With that said, here it goes:

This was the first time my Shams has seen a bug he couldn’t get to, but this isn’t just a first for him, it was a first for me too because Shams lost his footing and I had to catch him from falling. He gave me a real scare and I hugged him as long as he would allow. I love my little adventurous guy.

I saw a recipe for pineapple lemonade and since we had a ton of pineapple that we couldn’t eat before going bad, we blended a bunch of pineapples and fresh lemon juice together. Super yummy and would totally make again.

I was slightly confused by the concept of a cookie brownie. It’s not quite a cookie and it’s not quite brownie but it is quite yummy. 10/10 would eat again.

I LOVE watermelons! And anytime I find a new watermelon flavoured anything, I need to have it. Picked this wonder up at my local ALDI and my only regret is not buying more.

Don’t ask me how, but I’ve never had a Snickers ice cream cone. I’ve had the bars both the ice cream variety and the room temperature kind, but I tend to not enjoy cone based ice creams, with the exception of these. I love Snickers… Total comfort food.

Speaking of chocolate, I usually walk past the chocolate section of the grocery store with my head down because I want it all. This time I decided to indulge a bit and try this German hazelnut chocolate bar and I think I’m going to have to work extra hard to avoid the chocolate section next time.

First time hearing this song and I’m not ashamed to say I really like it.

This is freaky. I uploaded my picture to this beauty cam type of app. They have an automatic button which is supposed to automate multiple features to be their optimal prettiest and this is what I got. Enough said.

This is the first time I caught a picture and a glimpse of my cat looking all jealous while I hug my other cat. It broke my heart. I love my Qamar.

French style yoghurt is a new favourite of mine and I tend to love anything lemon flavoured. I do wish they’d make a lower sugar version though.

My Shams found a new toy. This is the day I realized that I didn’t have to buy him fancy toys and that he was happier playing and hanging out in a paper bag than any other toy I could possibly give him.

Well, that’s all for now folks.

Until next time…

Peace and Pistachios,

Year of Firsts: HQ

Yesterday’s First is one for all you trivia buffs. My brother told me about this app that has daily trivia games. And if you get them all right, then you win money. The winnings get split up among all the winners.

It’s certainly an enticing and interesting concept. I mean, who couldn’t use some extra money? I know I definitely could. It reminded me a lot of trivia shows I would see on Jordanian TV. Except you’d have to call in your answer and you had to be the lucky caller and the hosts would awkwardly dance or fidget on screen waiting for the phone calls to come through. 2008, what a time.

I’m not the best at these trivia games. I don’t really know these answers and I don’t know how some of these people know the answers to these questions. On a side note, how do you get one of these jobs? Writing trivia questions… Hosting a trivia game… Sign me up. I want to do that.

The questions start out easy and get more difficult. There’s only 12 question and you get 10 seconds to answer the question.

The truly tough part is that once you pick an answer, you can’t go back and change it. So you can’t mistakenly click on an answer.

The other not so great thing is as the app becomes more popular and more people log in to play, the app freezes and you get automatically eliminated.

There’s this chat function at the bottom of the screen and people type in the most absurd messages. I don’t know if they get stored somewhere, but there are a ton of Trump and MAGA messages being sent. I’d be interested to know the statistics of Trump-related messages vs the rest of the messages.

The messages go by so quickly so it can be difficult to keep up. I did catch someone say “Free Palestine” and that made me happy. Too bad I didn’t get a screenshot of it.

I was playing this game with my family last night, trying to help each other win. None of us won and honestly, I had so much anxiety. I know that I had nothing at stake and I wasn’t going to lose anything, but I kid you not, my heart was pounding, I had butterflies in my stomach and I felt like I had a frog in my throat.

After I got eliminated, I felt so much better. My family was laughing at me. They didn’t get it. I didn’t get it. Maybe it was because it was timed, I haven’t the slightest clue if that would have made a difference?

Oh well. It certainly was an experience. You should play too. Use my code ‘heba48’ to sign up

Until tomorrow…

Peace and Pistachios,

Share your favorite phone apps

If you’re anything like me, you’re always looking for new apps. Every so often I declutter and get rid of apps I haven’t  used in a while or see no reason to use any longer.

Since I’m all about the spring cleaning lately, these are the apps I’ve decided to keep:

So these are the obvious keeps. Instagram, Tumblr and Twitter are the top favs. Facebook Messenger just comes with the territory. I don’t really use Viber or WhatsApp anymore, mainly because I’ve grown distant both physically and metaphorically from the friends that I used to speak to on there.

Ok so Pinterest is my favorite. It’s been my obsession on and off for a while now, and right now the obsession is on. I have Skype on there in the event I need to make an international phone call to a land line, as opposed to a cell phone. Pandora keeps me relaxed. The Period Tracker helps me make sense of my life. Photoblender has come in handy a few time. I keep trying to use the Carb Tracker, but I have little sense of willpower. Shopkick let’s me earn a few. I live vicariously through Bitmoji and Bitstrips. I only downloaded Snapchat for the daily motivation from DJ Khaled. I like having the Islamic Calendar so I can easily look up holidays. Translate app is great when I can’t think of words in Arabic and I can get to it quick. Anyone who knows me, knows I have the craziest dreams. Really, they’re legendary, hence the dream interpretation app. Shazam is helpful when I’m out or watching something and I can’t identify the song I want to listen to more. Shopping lists keeps me on track when getting groceries and I am awful with numbers so that whole app for converting any and all measurements is perfect. Words Up: I HAVE BEEN STUCK ON THE SAME LEVEL FOR 3 YEARS!

So this is mostly the page with all the apps I can’t erase. But I like to listen to the Z Morning Zoo on Z100. I’ve been listening to that morning show since I was 13. It’s so much easier to listen to with the app. Field Agent and Surveys are two apps I use to earn a few pennies here and there. Snap gives me a little help when it comes to saving money. And of course I have my Layout app to make Instagram collages.

App Hoarding

What is the last thing you downloaded onto your computer?

Aside from a PDF I began to read and couldn’t finish, I probably downloaded an app that I haven’t used yet or can’t figure out how to use. I’m a chronic app downloader. The thing is, I download them think I’m going to use them and don’t. I convince myself that I will use them one day and then I struggle with whether or not I should delete them.

My name is Heba and I’m an app hoarder.
