Dear @GEDCSMILES @askUHC @myUHC @UHC @MedicaidGov: An Open Letter Because Tweets, Phone Calls and Snail Mail Aren’t Getting Me Anywhere So Maybe You’ll Read This

Dear UHC, Great Expressions, Medicaid and whoever else is reading:

I am writing in regard to a bill I am receiving from my dentist’s office. My dentist is Dr. Katerine Halim at Great Expressions in Woodbridge, NJ. The date of service was 10/12/2017. My dentist’s office has filed a pre-authorization and claim for my crown on tooth 12 multiple times.

The reason for the denial of the claim from United Healthcare is that the dentist has not sent postoperative x-rays, however, my dentist has sent the x-rays and has resubmitted the x-rays at least 3+ times now. I call United HealthCare and my dentist literally every two weeks and we continue to go around in the same circle where UHC claims to not get the x-rays and my dentist claims to have sent them.

In fact, this most recent time I spoke to my dentist, they said “we give up.” They then told me that they sent UHC my entire file, every treatment, every x-ray, everything they have on me, because they don’t know what else to do. They sent UHC everything and the claim was still denied.

I filed an appeal and it was denied on the basis that x-rays weren’t received, however, UHC was and has been able to receive x-rays for all of my other dental work. I’m not sure why this case is any different.

I only make $5,000 a year, this crown is more than $1,000, that is a fifth of my income. I can’t even pay that on a payment plan because I don’t make nearly enough money.

Additionally, I have been diagnosed with an aggressive myofibroma tumor in my mouth. I only bring this up because this situation is stressful and timely. I’ve spent hours upon hours upon hours making phone calls back and forth and getting nowhere. If I could hand deliver these x-rays to UHC, I would, but I’m in no position physically of financially to do so.

This bill is now going to collections and I can’t pay. I don’t know what to do. I have been put in the middle and neither side is willing to do or suggest anything different. We’re going around in a circle and the only one suffering is me.

I’ve gotten crowns before and I have never had this problem, I don’t understand why this is any different. Why should I be punished because UHC and my dentist can’t seem to communicate properly? I was never once given a choice. I was told I needed a crown. I trusted my doctor and typically the dentist doesn’t even allow me to schedule an appointment for a crown, let alone get the crown until insurance has approved it, but for whatever reason this time it’s not working.

Both sides, UHC and my dentist are not working together and my hands are tied. I didn’t want a crown, I was told I needed one and was given a crown only to be told after I got it that UHC isn’t covering it. If I could give you this crown back, I would because it has caused so much frustration.

I don’t even own anything worth $1,000. I  have no assets. I own nothing. How am I expected to pay? Why should my credit suffer because UHC and my dentist can’t seem to send and receive x-rays to each other?

I  have no idea what else to do and am left depleted at the end of the day. I cannot continue to spend my time and energy on this bill when I really should be using my time to treat my tumor. I am asking for your help in resolving this situation because I have nothing left to give. I have tried everything I can think of and I too have given up.

#Sleep is great

tumblr_lzerkmTo421qmioz3

What time is bed time?

Sleep is great, but it’s a beautiful misery, I tell ya. I don’t know why, but I can’t seem to get sleep during the night. I’ve tried everything, even pulling all nighters to try and feel exhausted by day’s end. I tried working out and standing all day. Tried melatonin. I tried working my brain until it couldn’t think anymore and nothing. So I typically go to sleep around 7-10 AM and wake up around sunset. It’s kind of great because I love the quiet and the night is the best time to enjoy the quiet. But at the same time it’s difficult to get any of my errands done because everywhere is closed at night.

I wish I could finally get a job soon so that I can force my body into some sort of routine. Pray for me and send some of your positive vibes my way.

Some Thoughts

The terrorist attacks in Paris are really sick and sad. My heart goes out to all those families and friends who are waiting to hear from their loved ones and especially those who won’t hear from their loved ones. May they rest in eternal peace.

I do need to address why we get more worked up about white people or people in “The West” dying than people of color, all over the rest of the world, dying.

Look at all the madness and uproar on Twitter and Tumblr  for Paris (And rightfully so) and take for instance the past few weeks in the Middle East, particularly the last 24-48 hours, have been hell. Multiple terrorist attacks in Lebanon and Iraq, I believe all claimed by ISIS. And very little in comparison was and has been mentioned about Lebanon and Iraq.

I believe the Paris attacks are also being claimed by ISIS, or at least that is what I have heard as of now. And in light of the Paris attacks all these racist Islamophobes come out and rant their ignorant mouths.  You know ISIS and other terrorists have killed thousands of Muslims in the past few years? And that the attacks in Lebanon and Iraq targeted both Muslims and non-Muslim Middle Easterners alike? Additionally, Paris has a high Muslim and Arab population. Who is to know how many Muslims and Arabs were injured or murdered in the Paris attacks.

What I’m trying to say is there’s no reason for the Islamophobia, because we’re all on the same side here. We’re all under threat by ISIS and other terrorists. We’re all against terrorism and violence. Who these psycho extremists are is beyond me, but they’re not the large majority of Arabs and Muslims. And the Arab and Muslim community continually condemns the violence and yet we are still bombarded with hate.

My fear is that the innocent refugees fleeing the violent terroristic regime of Bashar al-Assad, ISIS, the Taliban, Al Qaeda, etc., will pay the price for the horrible and violent few who threaten us all. I fear reprisal attacks and an unending cycle of violence.

There are too many uneducated people full of hate in this world. And all I want is to keep everyone safe and wrapped in a warm and loving blanket of puppies and kittens.

FW: Planned Parenthood raided. Hi there—I just wanted to make sure you saw Anna’s message from the other day. Planned Parenthood is under relentless attack, and they need our help to fight back.

Officials from Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s administration have raided Planned Parenthood health centers across the state, demanding the confidential records of women who visited the health centers, including ultrasound records.1 The news is especially alarming for a state with an extensive history of criminalizing abortion.

And the raids came just three days after Gov. Abbott announced that the state will end the one remaining source of government funding for Planned Parenthood—funding to provide health care for families earning less than 19 percent of the federal poverty level, or $3,760 for a family of three.2

In total, seven states have eliminated funding for Planned Parenthood since the summer.3 And the U.S. House of Representatives recently passed a special budget bill to defund Planned Parenthood that cannot be blocked in the Senate using the filibuster, which is how we’ve stopped other bills attacking the organization.4

The attacks on Planned Parenthood are relentless. We did not budget for this big of a fight—and we need to keep fighting. Will you chip in $3 right now?

Yes, I’ll chip in to help MoveOn fight to defend Planned Parenthood.

Here’s our plan to fight back:

  • We’ll turn up the heat on vulnerable Republican senators running for re-election next year by holding events outside their in-state offices and running powerful social media campaigns targeting them for waging a war on women.
  • We’ll run a hard-hitting media campaign to expose the attacks on Planned Parenthood for what they are: propaganda designed to close down health clinics and ban abortion.
  • We’ll ramp up campaigns in the next set of states where Republicans are going after Planned Parenthood funding.

We simply cannot allow anti-abortion extremists to destroy an organization that helps so many people—or to roll back women’s rights and access to health care. Can you chip in $3 now to join MoveOn as we fight to save Planned Parenthood?

Click here to chip in and stand with Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood is under an all-out assault. But our fighting back has made a huge difference, including helping stop bills to defund Planned Parenthood in the U.S. Senate. Specifically:

  • I recently traveled to Washington, D.C., where I met in person with Senators Elizabeth Warren and Harry Reid to bring them 1.2 million signatures from MoveOn members and key partners supporting Planned Parenthood.
  • We flooded Senate offices with 10,000 phone calls.
  • We ran ads highlighting how Planned Parenthood has helped individual MoveOn members.
  • We partnered with Planned Parenthood to organize 138 rallies and other visibility events across the country on #PinkOut Day last month.
  • And, on the state level, we supported numerous MoveOn members in leading petition campaigns and other organizing to stop their states from defunding Planned Parenthood.

Now, we need to show that attacking Planned Parenthood is a political loser and will cause vulnerable Republicans running for re-election next year to lose support among women. We know this strategy can work because Planned Parenthood is enormously popular. And we’ve used this strategy before and won: The Republican War on Women is a big reason why Todd Akin and Mitt Romney lost their elections in 2012.

We can beat back the worst attacks on Planned Parenthood, but we can’t do it without you. Will you chip in $3?

Thanks for all you do.

This is serious.

Ben Carson wants to completely “eliminate” Medicare if he becomes president.

He isn’t even sugar coating it. He says he wants to flat out abolish it.

That is morally unacceptable and flat out wrong. Seniors across the country rely on Medicare, and Ben Carson wants to tear it away.

The worst part? Ben Carson is now the GOP front-runner according to national polls. And just this morning many are saying he “won” last night’s debate.

Democrats must come together immediately and denounce this blatant attack on Medicare

Day 1

Truth is I don’t know what else to do with my time. Unemployment has taken over my life and left me bored, hopeless, depressed, feeling like a loser and all other sorts of feelings. So it could be a distraction, but on the positive end of it all, maybe it will give me some sort of self-esteem boost which will lead to an amazing opportunity? Let’s try to focus on positivity.

Obamacare Repealed

President Obama’s landmark healthcare law is in serious jeopardy.

What’s going on?

On Friday, House Republicans passed a bill that would GUT Obamacare and leave millions of Americans without access to affordable healthcare.

How is this different than previous attempts to dismantle Obamacare?

Republicans are using a little-known procedure called “reconciliation” to jam their bill through Congress.1 That means they can pass this legislation without any Democratic backing.

For the first time in his Presidency, Barack Obama could be forced to sign or veto a bill gutting Obamacare.

Why are Republicans trying to repeal Obamacare?

Destroying Obamacare was a key part of the Koch Brothers’ agenda when they spent hundreds of millions of dollars to elect Republicans last year.

So it’s no surprise the Republican Majority is using this chance to dismantle the President’s landmark achievement.

This is an all-hands-on-deck moment.

We’re trying to reach 1OO,OOO signers standing strong with President Obama before Republicans in the Senate hold a vote to repeal Obamacare. We need you with us.

For The Beaten Woman On The Bus In China

Here are two videos of women being hit and verbally abused for not giving up their seats to elderly men on busses. One video is tad older, but the other is recent and what prompted me to write this post. I understand that in China it is custom to respect your elders and offer your seat on the bus to an elderly man or woman.

In the past if I noticed someone who  needed a seat, say an elderly person, pregnant woman, or someone on crutches, I would give up my seat. There have been occasions where men would give up their seat to me and other ladies.

But ever since my back injury, I haven’t been able to be that kind and nice person who offers up their seat to just anyone. Busses and trains in particular are bumpy rides that are absolutely killer on my back. Standing in one place for longer than 15 minutes, really hurts my back. The pain is excruciating, to the point where there have been MANY times in which my back completely goes out. Herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, nerve damage, arthritis, sciatica, pinched nerves and all result in my not being able to move my legs at all. AT ALL. Anyone who has seen me go through it knows how serious it is and knows that I have to go to hospital and get shots and meds galore before I can even wobble and hobble about at the speed of a snail. It’s painful. I’ve also got a dodgy knee and shoulder. And these episodes can be brought on by sudden movements that can definitely happen while standing on busses and trains.

But looking at me, you wouldn’t be able to tell I have such horrible back problems. And while I don’t know exactly the circumstances of these videos or have a proper translation of words exchanged, I can’t help but wonder if anyone considered she may have an invisible disability.

There’s a VERY long list of invisible disabilities and people with these walk through their day without most people ever knowing that they are experiencing great pain or putting their all into simple tasks. Being a person with an invisible disability, some people see us as frauds or think we are exaggerating our pain. But we’re not. Most people think I’m exaggerating it until they see me get carried away in an ambulance unable to move or feel my legs.

And I know a lot of us spoonies might have a difficult time asking someone to give up their seat out of embarrassment. It’s embarrassing and scary. The fear of rejection, of altercation, is enough to make me risk my physical health and pray the bus doesn’t hit a massive bump in the road. People can be mean. I’ve seen an 8-month pregnant women get denied a seat by an entire bus of people. Sure some of them might be spoonies like me with invisible disabilities, but it’s statistically unlikely that an entire bus or train car of us are all experiencing pain or disability.

These women on the bus  in China could have been pregnant, in the early stages. They could have been recovering from surgery or maybe they did have a physical or invisible disability. Or maybe they could have been perfectly fine and “normal.”

Would this have even happened if it was a man who was asked to give up his seat? And say that man refused to give up his seat and is presumably healthy, would he have gotten hit? Furthermore, at what point in time are we going to  have enough of this let me make a vine and/or youtube video out of every single moment of our lives? Watching these short videos and noticing people staring and waiting to help. What… Why? Sure the videos are short and we can assume someone does break things up or helps, but a minute can feel like forever when someone is hitting you.

I don’t know. I could have it all wrong.

The point is that people need to more aware of those around them. Verbal and physical abuse never make any of these situations any better. Don’t be so selfish and try embracing empathy. Perhaps a more attention to detail and less self-centeredness can help broaden our perspectives of our surroundings.

Just give it a try before you be a jerk. The world will love you more just for trying.

Peace and Pistachios!
